Welcome to the 8th edition of Oil Spill India (OSI), set against the vibrant backdrop of New Delhi during 6th - 7th October 2026. Since its inception in 2011, OSI—with foundational leadership from the Indian Coast Guard and ONGC Limited—has evolved into one of the world’s leading forums dedicated to Spill Prevention, Planning, Preparedness, Response, and Restoration.
Over the past 15 years and seven editions, this conference has emerged as a truly global platform, convening government bodies, industry pioneers, maritime authorities, researchers, and NGOs to collectively address the complex challenges of oil spill management. OSI 2026 will build upon this legacy, embracing a future-focused theme: “Coastal Guardians: Future-Proofing India’s Waters in an Era of Emerging Risks.” As India’s maritime commerce expands and our offshore activities intensify, our coastal ecosystems—spanning the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and regional waterways—face looming threats from climate-driven extreme weather and deeper offshore operations.
In this context, OSI 2026 will spotlight four critical pillars including: Prevention & Planning - Emphasising real-time surveillance equipped with AI analytics for early leak detection, as well as sea-based decarbonisation efforts aligned with India’s net-zero ambition. Preparedness & Response - Drawing lessons from global incidents, we will showcase next-generation containment systems, bioremediation techniques, and rapid mobilisation frameworks tailored for regional waters. Restoration & Resilience - Engaging with practitioners dedicated to mangrove regeneration, coral reef restoration, and community rehabilitation—integral to sustaining livelihoods & Collaboration & Governance - Reinforcing frameworks that unite national enforcement agencies with private sector innovation, and integrating indigenous knowledge for a truly Indian approach to spill disaster resilience.
Over the two days, OSI 2026 will bring together international research excellence, innovative start-ups, regional policy-makers, and frontline response teams. We will critically examine past incidents and use emerging technologies such as autonomous sensors, UAV mapping, and predictive modelling to prepare for future risks.
Our aim is to shape a robust decision-support ecosystem that transitions India’s oil and gas, port, and shipping sectors towards a zero-incident paradigm. We reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding coastal heritage, sustaining livelihood-based economies, and promoting a blue economy that reflects both economic growth and ecological balance.
OSI 2026 is both a milestone and a mission: marking fifteen years of progress while charting a bold vision for the future. May this edition inspire actionable insights, durable partnerships, and innovative solutions that embody our role as Coastal Guardians.
Together, let us fortify regional waters and secure a resilient, sustainable future for the generations to come.
